Mission 01
H.M.S. Perceptron
Repair a survey ship by wiring its sensory, relay, and action systems.
The Board Game That Teaches How AI Works
The Starter Mission Pack turns neural networks into a storm-battered ship, uncharted islands, a monster-filled middle school, and a wartime codebreaking station. Solve every mission together—without a screen in sight.

Inside the game
A perceptron is one of the simplest building blocks of a neural network — a tiny decision-making machine.
Neural networks are one of the core technologies behind modern AI: they learn patterns from information and use those patterns to produce an answer.
One of the foundational ideas behind digital computers is the logic gate — something our founder, Jack, was fascinated with and initially helped himself understand by drawing them out by hand, on giant sheets of butcher paper at the kitchen table.
Logic gates take simple signals — ON or OFF, 1 or 0 — and apply a rule. An AND gate turns on only when both inputs are on. An OR gate turns on when either input is on. A NOT gate flips the signal: on becomes off, and off becomes on.
Then Jack discovered something surprising: a perceptron can do many of those same jobs — but instead of being built to follow one fixed rule, you can change how it responds.
A perceptron takes in signals, gives them different weights, adds a bias, and compares the result to a threshold. If the total reaches the threshold, it fires: 1. If it doesn’t: 0.
Connect perceptrons together, and the output of one becomes information for the next. That simple mechanism — signals being weighted and passed through layers of connected artificial neurons — is one of the foundational ideas behind neural networks.
So Jack made it physical.
In Perceptron, brass tokens send positive signals. Rubber rings subtract from them. A token on the neuron creates bias. And the die sets the threshold.
Change the pieces, and you change how the neuron responds. Connect the neurons, and you’ve built a network you can actually see, touch, test — and use to solve the adventure.
